Like the rest of New England, Fairfield has a long agricultural history. Though most of our former farmland has been developed into residential plots, Fairfield and our surrounding towns are still home to many thriving farms. These growers share an invaluable set of skills: understanding the complexities of growing food with the seasons and the turbulences of weather, and tending to their land such that it will continue to produce for future generations. Sustainable Fairfield is focusing a spotlight on our local growers this summer with features on our local farms. This week our Farmstand Spotlight is focused on the newest of these farms, and it’s a beautiful one!

We reached out to Southview Farm after happening upon their gorgeous Instagram profile. The farm is located at 2361 Hillside Rd, and the farm stand is open daily from 8am to 6pm.
“We are Michael and Nicole Kudravy the owners of Southview Farm. Southview Farm is a small family farm which we established in 2020. When we bought our home on 8.8 acres back in 2019 we knew we wanted to preserve as much of it as we could while also trying to cultivate the land to grow fruits and vegetables. We are passionate about connecting with the community by providing fresh seasonal produce and eggs as well as cultivating relationships with fellow business owners and farmers. Currently, we have a flock of almost 30 chickens, half are adults and half are still pullets (young non-laying chickens). Once our pullets start laying we will have brown, white, blue, and green eggs! We opened our farm stand this past Spring which is where we sell our fresh produce, eggs, natural handmade soap, flowers, etc. Currently, growing in the garden we have tomatoes, cucumbers, beets, carrots, corn, and summer squash! Our big crop will be pumpkins and right now we have about 200 pumpkin plants with 13 different types of pumpkins and gourds. We also plan to create a pollinator meadow which will be an area filled with native plants such as black eyed Susan’s and milk weed to create a habitat for bees and other pollinators. We are also working with the Town on plans to expand and create a pond to house different wildlife. We are growing day by day and look forward to growing further with our Fairfield community! Farm updates will be posted on Instagram so make sure to follow us!”
