Hey! it’s National Drive Electric Week, and here in Fairfield we celebrate with a parade and electric vehicle showcase. If you’ve been on the fence about buying an EV, first read this article in Treehugger by Jim Motavalli, Sustainable Fairfield’s in house EV expert. Jim believes that “EV’s will take over because they are better cars.” Things that you’ve been waiting for, such as charging infrastructure and better range are here, now.

Then, mark your calendar for Saturday October 2. In between shuttling the kids to soccer, you won’t want to miss Sustainable Fairfield’s 7th annual Green Wheel’s EXPO. The day kicks off at the Westport Train Station at 10 AM, with an electric vehicle parade along the Post Road sponsored by CT’s Electric Car Club. The parade will finale at Bob’s Parking lot 889 Post Road Fairfield, where First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick, State Reps Cristin McCarthy Vahey and Jennifer Leeper, and Barry Kresch of CT’s EV Club will speak on Connecticut’s road to electrification.

And of course, you get to see these great cars. We have already seen a good deal of excitement around the Mustang Mach-E as well as the PorscheTaycan. Electric motorcycles, scooters and bikes will offer options for the more freewheelin’ among us. And that big, green, people moving machine- Greater Bridgeport Transit’s Proterra electric bus- will be on hand to remind us that we need to scale public transit to be healthier and more equitable.

Sustainable Fairfield isn’t just bullish on electric vehicles because they have zero emissions, which make our town and the planet healthier, but also because they’re better cars. Just ask Jim.
