Sustainable Fairfield’s 7th Green Wheels Expo once again proved a great success, with people coming out in droves to view the latest in electric vehicles. The day began at Westport’s train station with an EV Parade sponsored by the EV Club of Connecticut, with State Representative Steinberg officiating, and finished at Bob’s parking lot in Fairfield. But the day did not end there.

State and local luminaries were present, including State Representatives Cristin McCarthy Vahey and Jennifer Leeper,Fairfield’s First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick, Selectman Tom Flynn, and Fairfield Police Chief Robert Kalamaras.

Daphne Dixon of Live Green CT served as Master of Ceremonies. Barry Kresch, chair of the CT EV Club gave a synopsis of the Transportation Climate Initiative, the cap and invest program to reduce tailpipe pollution in our state. State Reps. Leeper and McCarthy Vahey voiced their support. First Selectwoman Kupchick spoke about Fairfield’s efforts in bicycle and pedestrian safety and efforts to green the town’s fleet.

There were star turns as well, with the Mustang Mach-E and Polestar drawing lots of attention. It wasn’t all about the cars though, as people learned the benefits of electric bikes, motorcycles and even a homemade scooter as great ways to get around town. Greater Bridgeport Transit’s Proterra zero emissions electric bus was a crowd pleaser, with lots of people hopping on and off. Who knows, perhaps we’ll get an electric truck next year?
