This week’s Eco-Kids Summit Earth Day programming builds upon the museum’s long-standing commitment to connecting with all young members of our community and their families with important lessons about how to make positive AND sustainable choices. Since the launch of our Healthy Children, Healthy Communities® Initiative in 2006, Stepping Stones has introduced and promoted key messages about conservation, environmental health and environmental stewardship to millions of children and families through educational interactions like our onsite and travelling exhibits that include Conservation Quest®, Build It! and Energy Lab, educational, play-driven workshops for school and community group audiences, hands-on activities within the museum’s garden spaces and our “green” building, which is LEED Gold certified, meeting the nation’s strictest controls in environmental sustainability.
Stepping Stones prides itself on responding to the interests and needs of our community. During this period of physical distancing, the museum will continue to provide engaging multimedia extensions that provide science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM)-infused, early language- and literacy-inspired virtual learning opportunities for children to enjoy at home during this challenging time.
However, Stepping Stones Museum for Children is a nonprofit organization. Like the rest of the nation’s museum community, we’re facing an existential threat from the closures required to address the COVID-19 pandemic. To deliver on our mission, Stepping Stones is heavily dependent of earned income. During this period of closure, normal revenue from admissions fees, membership sales and event rentals have effectively ceased and charitable contributions have declined dramatically. When the time is right for you and your family, please consider making a donation. We ask for your support to help ensure that our award-winning museum has the necessary funds to continue to operate as well as create extraordinary exhibits and programs in the future.
